Spray-On Colour is the colour/tint component of the spray-on product. Spray-On Colour is first mixed with Spray-Bond to ensure even colour distribution.
FULL INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW
Addcrete Spray- On is a liquid acrylic polymer emulsion combined with cement based aggregate and colour to produce high quality, high strength decorative concreting effects.
Addcrete Spray-On can be used over existing concrete surfaces to produce either plain colours or a coloured and patterned finish indistinguishable from monolithic (wet formed) stencilled patterns.
Addcrete Spray-On is highly versatile and can be used as a cost effective alternative to rendering or bagging. After application the product can be worked with a variety of tools to produce distinctly unique finishes and surface textures.
Advantages
- Adds value to existing structure
- High compressive, flexural and tensile strengths
- Hides defects
- Good slip resistance
- Improves abrasion and impact properties
- Highly versatile for a wide range of interior and exterior uses
Packaging Addcrete Spray-On is a 3 part mixture consisting of;
- Addcrete Spray-Bond (Available in 20ltr and 5ltr containers)
- Addcrete Spray-On (Aggregate) (Available in 20kg bag)
- Addcrete Spray-Colour (Available in single packs per spray on bag)
Surface Preparation Preparation of the concrete prior to application of Addcrete Spray-On is vital, do not cut corners or skip parts as this will be evident in the finished job. Addcrete Spray-On does not stick well to oil and/or dirt. Remove all loose, flaky, powdery material, grease, oil, paint or any other contaminant. NOTE: A squeegee can be used to remove excess water to improve drying time.
General Cleaning – Dirt & Dust: Sweep area clean of all loose debris, dust and dirt. Pressure wash entire area, dry thoroughly. Addcrete recommends the use of HOT water to ensure more thorough cleaning.
Oil: Use a concrete cleaner (de-greaser) on oil patches. Broom the de- greaser into oil patches and a minimum standing time of 5 minutes. If entire area affected by oil apply de- greaser to entire surface. Pressure wash whole area, dry thoroughly.
Cracks: Grind, clean and fill all cracks with cement or epoxy based grout, allow adequate drying time and grind to required finish. No repair work will prevent further cracking that results from thermal or ground movement, this will often be reflected in any new topping albeit smaller and less noticeable. NOTE: It is often advisable to cut joints if required before the application of Addcrete Spray- On.
Acid Etch: all surfaces should be acid etched prior to application of Addcrete Spray- On. Dilute acid 1:25 (add acid to water). Pour onto wet surface and keep moving with a stiff bristle broom. Wash area very thoroughly to remove all acid and allow to dry completely.
Spray-On Base Coat Application The base coat is used to hide staining or colour variations in existing surface, the base coat colour will be visible as the stencil gout/border lines.
- Protect adjoining surfaces before application to prevent overspray or spillage onto surrounding areas.
- Dilute the Addcrete Spray- Bond in a 50:50 ratio with water.
- Measure 5ltrs of the diluted Addcrete Spray-Bond into suitable mixing vessel. Combine required Addcrete Spray-Colour with liquid and mix at low speed until an even dispersion is obtained. Continue mixing at a low speed and gradually combine 20kg of Addcrete Spray-On aggregate to liquid mixture. Continue mixing until a smooth, even consistency is obtained (approx 5 mins).
- Allow mixture to settle for 1-3 minutes, this enables trapped air bubbles to escape.
- Pour mixture directly onto surface, trowelling into corners and edges (can also be sprayed on).
- Repeat steps 2-4 until entire surface to be sprayed is covered with an even layer of the base coat, you may need to trowel out any high points or imperfections while base coat is still wet.
- Allow base coat to dry (approx 2hrs at 20 degrees Celsius ambient temperature).
- Any surface imperfections (eg: trowel marks) can be lightly sanded out with a suitable concrete rubbing block.
- Sweep or blow any loose materials from the surface.
NOTE: Mixing with drill and paddle is recommended for smaller quantities, for larger quantities a regular cement mixer may be used. NOTE: It may be necessary to add or retain a small amount of diluted Addcrete Spray-Bond to obtain a suitable consistency depending on ambient conditions.
Addcrete Spray-On Top Coat Application The top coat is the primarily visible colour, multiple top coat colours can be applied for contrast.
- Secure stencils and or tape to surface to achieve the desired pattern.
- Tape all expansion joints to prevent filling.
- Fill hopper gun or pressure pot and set air pressure between 15-20 PSI.
- Holding gun at a 90 degree angle to surface approximately 60cm from the surface and spray using a rotary movement.
NOTE: Coverage will depend on thickness; with a 1.5mm build, one bag of Spray-On will cover approximately 10 square metres.
Stencil Removal
- Allow the top coat to dry for 1-3 hours depending on ambient temperature and conditions.
- Remove tape and stencil using a quick lifting motion, this will ensure a clean edged grout line.
- If the grout line edges are uneven/rough the top coat may not be sufficiently dry, cease stencil removal and allow the top coat extra drying time.
NOTE: It is advisable to start stencil removal in less visible/used area to allow for variations in drying times. To thick an application of Addcrete Spray-On top coat may result in uneven/rough grout lines on stencil removal.
Sealing Seal the surface, two coats of a high quality sealer are recommended to ensure the long serviceability of the Spray-On surface finish. A same-day-sealer may be used for immediate protection. For more information refer to Addcrete Sealer usage guides.
Clean Up Clean up all tools and hopper gun with water before the material dries, light scrubbing may be required. If the Spray- ON dries then use xylene, mineral turpentine or solvent to remove the material. Addcrete Spray-On which has dried will require mechanical means to remove the material.
NOTE: Hoppers guns should be cleaned between each application of 20kg Addcrete Spray-On. It is advisable to oil and grease hopper gun after each days use.
Storage Should be stored in original un-opened containers.
Precautions Suitable protective gloves, goggles and clothing should be worn. Any contact with the skin or eyes should be flushed / washed off with running water immediately.
Avoid inhaling or swallowing the product.
NOTE: Material safety data sheets for these and all Addcrete products are available on request. Read the MSDS carefully before use.
